AIR COM Aircraft Radio

The AIR Avionics AIR COM (AC-1) is an exceptionally compact and lightweight 8.33 kHz VHF aviation transceiver featuring a fully digital design. The radio module was developed for modern and flexible avionics installations, combining compact dimensions and low weight with comprehensive communication and audio functions.

Thanks to its modular concept, the actual AIR COM radio module can be installed flexibly within the aircraft and operated via a separate AIR Control Display (ACD-57) or a compatible flight deck system.

Please note: This product is the AIR COM radio module only. The AIR Control Display is not included and must be ordered separately if required.

The fully digital architecture of the AIR COM provides modern signal and audio processing. In addition to VHF radio communication, the system offers an integrated intercom, audio mixing and extensive options for configuring audio inputs and outputs.

A particularly useful feature is the Say Again function. Previously received radio transmissions can be replayed. If a call sign, frequency or instruction was not fully understood, the pilot can simply listen to the most recently received transmission again.

AIR COM also features Dual Watch, allowing two frequencies to be monitored simultaneously. A particular advantage of the system is the ability to adjust the volume of the primary channel and the monitored DUAL/MON channel independently.

When used in combination with the AIR Control Display ACD-57, additional functions are available. These include an airfield database, frequency memories, frequency history, GPS interface and a NEAREST airport function.

The AIR Control Display features a large, high-contrast colour display with excellent sunlight readability and provides intuitive control of the connected AIR COM.

Another advantage of the AIR Avionics concept is the ability to control multiple avionics functions through a common control unit. When combined with compatible AIR Avionics components, the AIR Control Display can control not only the radio but also a compatible transponder.

The modular installation concept allows different installation configurations. The AIR COM can be installed directly behind an AIR Control Display. Alternatively, the radio module and display can be installed separately at different locations within the aircraft.

When AIR COM and AIR Control Display are installed directly together, the total installation length is only approximately 141 mm, making the system suitable for cockpits with limited installation space.

The modular concept also provides advantages for future expansion. Depending on the aircraft and cockpit configuration, one or more AIR Control Displays can be used. This is particularly useful in aircraft with tandem seating arrangements.

In addition to the AIR Control Display, AIR COM can also be controlled by compatible avionics systems such as Garmin® G3X Touch® and Dynon® SkyView®, according to the manufacturer. With a compatible installation, a separate AIR Control Display may therefore not be required.

Modular Installation Concept:

The AIR COM was not designed as a conventional aviation radio with permanently integrated front-panel controls. Instead, the system consists of a compact radio module and a separate control solution.

The AIR COM can be connected directly to an AIR Control Display ACD-57 and installed immediately behind the display.

Alternatively, the radio module can be installed at another suitable location within the aircraft and connected to the display by cable.

This concept allows flexible use of the available installation space and provides particular advantages in modern or compact cockpit layouts.

Important Information Regarding Operation:

This product includes the AIR COM radio module (AC-1).

The AIR Control Display ACD-57 is not included and must be ordered separately unless another compatible control solution is used.

According to the manufacturer, AIR COM can alternatively be controlled by certain compatible flight deck systems, including Garmin® G3X Touch® and Dynon® SkyView®. Compatibility of the respective avionics configuration should be verified before installation.

Installation:

The AIR COM can either be installed directly behind the AIR Control Display or separately at another suitable location within the aircraft.

When AIR COM and AIR Control Display are installed directly together, the total system length is only approximately 141 mm.

Suitable mounting brackets, installation hardware and additional accessories are available separately.

Installation must be carried out in accordance with the applicable airworthiness, regulatory and technical requirements for the respective aircraft.
